Smoke on the Water

Fire in the Sky

We went on our annual trip to central Washington to pick crabapples and buy peaches.  This year it seemed like the whole area was on fire.  There was an inversion so also dangerously smokey.  Here is the orchard we pick in.  You can barely see the hills nearby.

But we managed to pick almost 400# of crabapples.  Our cider may be a little smoke flavored this year.  We also picked up Madison, a sheep from Jackie who has lost her husband and been evacuated twice for wildfires.  I hope Madison will be happy here where we do not have wildfires but flooding problems instead.

  1. “We all came out to Montreux, on the Lake Geneva shoreline…”

To make records with a mobile,
      We didn’t have much time.
But Frank Zappa and the Mothers,
Were at the best place around,
But some stupid with a flare gun,
Burned the place to the ground.

  2. Also, another road trip already?

  3. Tina T-P says:

Wow – It looks awful over there!! Have a good time at the spinning retreat! – How was Jackie doing? T.

    • Donna says:

It was awful over there Tina! We did drive by your place ( but did not stop) drove by Boulder Park and into Mansfield before going to Waterville. Up on the plateau it was not as smokey. Jackie seems to be doing quite well given the circumstances.

  4. Dad says:

They evacuated Liberty and Rick was told to leave on Saturday. Fire is below Lion’s Rock but windy. Too much excitment for one year.

    • Donna says:

I realized Liberty was in danger for a second time but did not realize Rick would be again. It is scary around Carlton, Chelan and Wenatchee. What a mess. As of yesterday no structures were lost (that I heard of) so at least there is that. I hope the firefighters can keep this up.
