Mud Season

cottonwood rounds in mudIt is that time of year when everything turns soppy.  We have been placing bales of straw and shavings in the barn to try to keep it dry.  Today I rolled three large cottonwood rounds into the deepest mud in front of the sheep barn to give them something drier to walk on.  Per my grampa’s rain gauge, we have had 9 inches so far this month.  It is no wonder why everything is so wet.

I feel your pain, Donna. I love that sheep are so hardy in the rain, but it’s obvious that even they detest the mud they have to slop through to get to the hay feeders. Insult to injury is there are only 9 hours and 5 minutes of daylight right now, (if endless grey skies can be considered daylight) and less 2 minutes every day until December 21/ winter solstice. Sigh.
