Goat Hooves

goat hoof

I know this does not look like much, but it is Jack’s rear hoof without any evidence of hoof scald.  Normally he would be having oozing, red soreness between his two heels, but this time he and the rest of the flock had no evidence of hoof scald.  This is after almost 7 weeks from beginning the zinc sulphate foot baths and almost 4 weeks after finishing them.  So at this early point it seems to have worked.  And this is during the wet fall and winter months as evidenced by the mud and moisture on his feet.  So all that work and goat grumpiness may have been worth it!

Hoof health in the winter is so hard! Looks good.

Thanks Teresa! I am embarrassed about how muddy his hoof is but thrilled there is no infection for once.
