We have had two family gatherings this weekend involving grandparents.
On Friday evening Tom’s daughter and son in law held a baby shower for the 3 month old baby they are adopting. His name is Liam, and he is as cute as can be. As a pediatrician I bought them a bunch of health related gifts and will surely pepper them with unwanted medical advice. Tom bought them practical items like diapers but also cute outfits including camo and Seahawks ones. Here is a photo of the cutey.
On Sunday we had a memorial for my grandmother. Here is her obituary.
So in one weekend I said goodbye to my last grandparent and became one for the first time. It is somewhat surreal. But I will try to use the excellent examples of all of my grandparents as I assume this new role.
The cycle of life, I guess?
Sorry about the loss of your grandmother. But, oh, my – life is so different for my friends who are grandmothers – it seems to take on a new and wonderful meaning. Congrats.
Thanks Tina! It is not the usual route to becoming a grandmother but it rarely is. We shall see what I have to offer.

Congratulations to you all! That baby will have lots of lovely knit items, I’m sure. What a blessing to have a wealth of wonderful grandparents to have learned from.
Thanks Liz! I forgot about knitting. I better get to it. And I am blessed.

Yes, the cycle of life. It’s a bittersweet cycle, I’m afraid.
Thanks Michelle- very well phrased.
