I Officially Hate Summer

swollen handThis morning I was doing the normal animal chores when I shut the gate at the end of our alley way.  Apparently there are yellow jackets building a nest inside the pipe of the gate, and one of them stung me.  It got me in the right hand through my glove. It hurt like crazy so I knew I got it good.  I took 50 mg of Benadryl and kept my hand elevated above the level of my heart all afternoon.  Despite this my hand and forearm are swelling up nicely.  I did manage to get my ring off though with the help of cold water and Vaseline.

This sucks.  I am right handed and cannot bring my fingers together.  I did manage to ply yarn I spun from James (Suffolk/North Country Cheviot) yarn with my left hand while I kept my right hand on ice (while watching the Mariner’s replay of Iwakuma’s no-hitter).  Now I am on ibuprofen because it is hurting so much.  I want summer to be over!

I do too . Well, don’t hate summer, but it is my least favorite season and this summer has made me almost despise the season. Too much heat, too much work and watering outdoors, while everyone else seems to think it is vacation time. Vacation time ? Really ?!?

I am sorry to see you’re a victim of bee stings and glad you’re on the mend.

Thanks Kathy! I agree, too much heat, too much work, too much watering and too many vicious hornets. I am not on the mend yet, not for a few days 🙁

My heart doctor got stung by a hornet. His hand and arm looked like yours. He told me something about the process of the sting, and that it took about 7 days for it to start getting better. I did feel bad for him, but after a bit I began to think ” Hay doc this is my 15 mins we’ll talk about your arm later”. He was having a bad time of it. Like yours he couldn’t bend his fingers, so typing in my info was a nightmare. So darn sorry that hornet got you!

John said he heard from Tom that you had been stun, but he thought it was one of your bees – It does look very painful – I got a ground bee sting in the crick of my elbow and that son of a gun hurt like crazy and then it turned into a big old bruise! Hope you are on the mend –

Are you going to keep the chickens? Just makes you want to take people out in the woods and drive off and leave them doesn’t it? Poor chickies…. T.

Our honey bees are very docile even when I am looking in their hive. No, this was a mean yellow jacket. I am in the mend though. And we will keep the chickens. I could not find one of them this morning so hopefully she is OK.
