Lewis died yesterday. He was our mascot, on our business cards and cafe press stuff.
He was a gorgeous black and white spotted (flecket) ram with stunning horns.
He was a well-behaved ram who produced nice wool that was fun to spin and beautiful baby lambs over the 12 + years we had him.
Recently he was appearing old, thin and frail. I had been trying to spoil him with the nicest pasture we have, grain and bread treats.
But despite this his body gave up on him, and we had to say a very sad goodbye yesterday. He will be sorely missed around here.
I am so sorry. Somehow, knowing they lived a long happy life doesn’t make it any easier to say good-bye.
I agree Teresa! But thanks. I know you understand what it is like.
Sad to hear this news. Some of our animals really find a way into our hearts.
Thanks Marla! They really do, don’t they?
A grand old ram that couldn’t have asked for a better life. Not passed around, not taken to the sale or put in the freezer. I’m sure he knew he was loved.
Thanks Michelle! I have been thinking that his life was likely better than most rams, although he may not have had as many ewes as he would have liked. It may have been a little on the boring side, but at least not scary.
He was beautiful.
Thanks! He was 🙂
He was HB’s sire – RIP Lewis.
Hope the sale went well today! T.
Thanks Tina! He was the sire of (in order) Samson, Delilah, Sugar, Spice, Mojo, Mona, Guinevere, Griswold, Goliath, George, Gwendolyn, Lady Madonna, Prudence, Monty, Mortimer, Darwin, Josefina, Katarina, Dinah, Dixie, Rhett, Scarlett, Sergeant Pepper, Abbey Road, Bo, Diddley, Merle, Waylon, Maybelle, Wynette, Hodor and Walda as well as others whose ewes were brought over for breeding.
So sorry to hear this. Rest in Peace Lewis. He was such a handsome guy.
Thanks Denise! He was a handsome fellow and produced great sheep for you.
