It has been raining today!!! I remember a drought in the mid-80’s, but this is the worst one in my lifetime. People are dying, animals are dying, trees are dying, buildings are burning, crops are failing, and farmers are scrambling to find food for their animals. It has been a struggle for us (although not as much as others). We had a hard time finding hay, and we have been laboring to water our plants and failing some since a few are dying.
So this is the happiest I have ever been to see rain. We have only had a total of 0.9 inches all summer and have 0.5 inches just this morning with a lot more coming. It seems like such a miracle that the clouds would bring water to our entire 12.5 acres without any work on our part.
Unfortunately with the rain came the wind. Our lights flickered on and off all day, but we never lost power unlike Tom’s parents. We lost a lot of very large branches, and our neighbors lost entire trees. Many of our beans and corn fell over, and our tomato hoop house was torn asunder. But no major damage done here so far, just clean up.
The big issue is how the many fires east of us are doing. Hopefully this miraculous rain is falling on the other side of the mountains, and the wind is not fanning the flames there.
I was so happy to hear the rain! I hope the rain is falling hard over the wildfires and the wind is non-existent.
I was happy too. Now I am reading about all the local damage with the wind and hoping for the best farther east.
It seems a always job to withstand mother natures wrath. My hubby’s grandma always read the weather signs of nature. She put crops out according to those signs, and set the hen and turkey eggs according to those signs. I learned all I could from her while she was alive.

glad you didn’t suffer too much wind damage. we did ok too, but were out of power for most of the weekend. Yay for the rain!
I am sorry to hear about your power. But I am thrilled about the rain.
