There’s a Storm A’Brewing, Pa!*

We are about to get slammed here.  Per Cliff Mass we are going to get 5-10 inches of rain and some places more after a tremendous windstorm.  Here is the map he posted of this atmospheric river about to inundate us:

He suggested we listen to the Jaws theme song while readying his predictions, which I did.  So we have been trying to get ready, battening down the hatches so to speak.  We are putting away anything that might blow away or be damaged by the wind.  Our generator is ready to go.  We are checking the ditches and getting sand bags ready.  We are doing tasks that require electricity now since we may not be able to do them later.  We obtained extra feed and supplies for the animals in case our road is flooded and impassable.  Per the KCPQ forecast this morning, our little farm is expected to take a direct hit from this storm tomorrow afternoon.  So we are definitely expecting flooding here.

*This saying is from Ma Kettle.  My grandparents gave me “The Egg and I” by Betty MacDonald for my birthday in 1997.  It is copyrighted 1945 and is the fifth impression. I adore this book.  For those who are not familiar, it is about a new wife moving to the Olympic Peninsula and trying to farm with her husband.  It is hilarious.  The Ma and Pa Kettle characters are based on her neighbors there.  So whenever there is a storm coming, I tell Tom “There’s a storm a’brewing, Pa”.  We both get a kick out of it.

  1. Wow. I hope it doesn’t turn out as bad as the prediction.
