When I do the animals chores, I usually lock the skinny sheep and goats in the barn so they can eat in relative peace, and I can throw some feed outside the barn for the geese to eat. Some chickens stay in the abrn to eat the some of the sheep’s grain, and some stay and eat some of the geese’ grain. Today while the barn door was shut, and I was outside and heard a great commotion from in front of the bar. Then I noticed a large bald eagle taking off from the ground in front of the barn with the geese in hot pursuit, honking and biting. Here is the eagle after landing on a pole at the edge of our field.
Thankfully he did not get any of the chickens he was going after. They had scattered to be near the netting next to the barn, since they couldn’t get through the barn’s door as it was shut.
The ongoing chicken commotion was impressive.
And here is how close the eagle remained on the pole, overlooking the hens.
The eagle then gave up and soared away.
And here are my heroes, our attack geese.

They were pretty brave to take the eagle on.
When I was a kid my parents had a few geese. They were the first warning of visitors of any kind. They were great “watch dogs”. They had a vicious snip too!
Thanks Tammy! Our geese are constantly honking and carrying on. So unfortunately they are not good watch geese but apparently are good eagle attack geese.
We’ve dealt with coyotes and fox but we have yet to experience a raptor! Praise the geese!
We have had raptor problems for awhile but this was quite dramatic.
way to go geese!! make that stupid eagle think twice before coming back for chicken dinner!
