Gramma’s Windowsill

My Gramma White had a drinking bird on her kitchen windowsill in West Seattle. I remember it well. I had one earlier as an adult, but it broke. There was one for sale in Memphis at Schwab’s so I bought it and brought it home. Today I set it up on my kitchen windowsill.

She also had teabag holders on her sill, and I have those too.

It is funny what you remember as a child. What did your grandmother have on her windowsill?

I don’t remember anything on either grandma’s windowsills. But after living with my maternal grandma when I was a toddler, I lived far away from both my grandmothers and didn’t get to spend much time in their homes.

Oh, my dad’s parents had one of these drinking birds too! I’d totally forgotten about it. Now we need one. 🙂
My mother’s parents kept a milk glass hen on a nest in their kitchen window. Now it sits on ours and holds my rings when I’m into a messy project.

That’s really cute!! I’ve never seen one!! I didn’t know my maternal grandmother well, since she lived too far away. However I knew and loved my dad’s mother and spent a lot of time with her. She used to have an eye wash cup/glass on her kitchen window sill. I never saw her use it though.

Yes, Michelle is right. That was in the days before eye drops were available. Google ’em! Even as a kid, I thought of them as rather “germy!”
