Today we had a small tour of some local Shetland Sheep farms. First we visit Maureen’s MacFinn farm near Duvall She had lovely sheep and wool fleeces.
Then we visit Sally’s Sleepy Hollow Shetland sheep near Arlington.
She had beautiful sheep, amazing fleeces and a wonderful crook made with a ram’s horn.
We then visited my farm where about half the sheep cooperated and got in the barn to be looked at. Diddley was a star, as usual.
We also had a snack with cheese, crackers and salami accompanied by Sheep Thrills wine.
It was a nice day of sheep visiting.
Ha! I’m drinking Sheep Thrills tonight too. Thanks for organizing this Donna – it was great to see everyone and talk sheep for an hour or so – always a favorite topic! 🙂

Where do you get the sheep thrills wine?
I got it at Fred Meyers in Burlington.
Looks like a fun day! We have a couple of old Hudson Bay blankets and I always wonder how many fleeces it would take to make a big blanket. That wine looks awesome!
It was fun. There is a lot of waste with washing and processing wool. With weaving there is more Ladd than knitting. You could weigh the blanket and figure at least twice that amount in weight. I probably average 3# fleeces but bigger sheep tend to make more. The wine was awesome.

Donna!! You didn’t tell me you found it!! I’m totally amazed!! I had just asked my niece if she still wanted hers. Maybe I’ll take it!
Those really are cute sheep you pictured.
I did find it. I wanted to surprise you. I thought it was appropriate for a sheep tour. Everyone enjoyed it. We were joking about trying to taste hints of lanolin and alfalfa in the wine.
