So we have a long to-do list. The most urgent matters go to the top of the list, and everything else just sits there, waiting. Today and yesterday, shearing the old sheep moved to the top of the list due to the hot temperatures recently. Yesterday I “sheared” Wilma and today I did Heidi. Here is Heidi at the beginning:
The problem is, because I waited they are felted practically to the skin. So getting the wool off of them was a chore. I was snipping under the felted part just above the skin and trying hard not to cut their skin. Hers she is partially “shorn”:
Calling it shearing seems too nice. But here she is all done:
It is not perfect and there were a couple of nicks, but she should be much more comfortable now. She is fifteen so comfort is especially important.
The other item that went to the top of the list is getting the garden planted. If the plants do not get in the ground now, there will be no veggies in the fall. So yesterday and today I planted the cucumbers, squash, melons and eggplants. Here are some of the squash and melons.
The garden this year has been a complete disaster and a complete success at the same time. The extremes are the worst we have had. Here are some of the failures:
tomatoes
more tomatoes
even more tomatoes
bell peppers
rosemary
dill
fennel
But here are the successes:
lettuce (one of three thriving containers)
potatoes
one potato plant
peas
corn
definitely knee high
So a couple of things off the to-do list but a lot more waiting.
On another note, Rosalie and Truffle are doing well.
And the book they were named after is very cute.
Wow! You’ve put a lot of work into your garden, and it’s looking great. It’s way ahead of my daughter’s, but she’s a new gardener. Our garden is about 12′ x 13’… We don’t have a very big lot.
P.S. Can you please remind me of the title of the book about the two piggies? I don’t have the time or the gumption to go back and look for that blog. And where did you get it?? Maybe Amazon would have it?
The book is Rosalie and Truffle. I found it used on Amazon out of the Tacoma Goodwill.
12 by 13 is a good sized garden. We should, of course, be doing more but I am happy with successes we do have.
It is really slow going getting felted fleeces off- I’ve dealt with that with Frank and Felix, but ‘m sure that Heidi and Wilma appreciate your efforts getting them out of their heavy coats 🙂
