Late June Farm Chores

I have 4 days off of “work” so I am catching up on some neglected farm chores and also neglected health appointments.

The grass is growing like crazy so keeping the animals rotated on it is important.  Tom has mowed three fields, trying to keep the swamp grass and sticker bushes at bay.

Yesterday I spent a good portion of the day working on the vegetable garden.  I weeded, scythed, transplanted and watered.  Here it is after my efforts.

There are also beets, chard, carrots, turnips, rutabagas and sunflowers that you cannot see in the photos.

Today I started mucking out the barn.  I got one pen done as well as the area in front of the barn doors, so we can hopefully open them.  It is a little tricky cleaning up the barn as I still cannot wear boots on my run-over foot.  But I got ‘er done.

The chickens love this. They scratch around looking for grubs and worms.  I really enjoy watching chickens scratch around in the barnyard.

On way way to lunch (salad from the garden) I saw this pretty rose.  Isn’t it gorgeous?  Plus it smells lovely too.

That’s a big, burgeoning garden patch!

It’s hard to imagine the size of your garden! It looks great!
Do you know the name of that beautiful rose? And the. Company?

    • Donna says:

Thanks. It is not as big as it probably looks in the photos, but it is huge for the two of us. I do not know the name of the rose. I bought and planted it before we were married here in 2003. I think I used Jackson and Perkins, and I was aiming for purple as well as fragrant roses for the wedding. It is dumping rain now but once it has cleared I will look to see if there is still a tag on it, but unlikely.

There is no tag on it, and I cannot see it in their online catalog. Sorry I couldn’t help.
