Chickens Spreading Hay

One thing that chickens are good for is spreading hay.  Tom yesterday finished cleaning out the barn, and today I put out the first bale of straw.  All I have to do is separate the flakes, and the chickens take care of the rest.  There is something so cute about the way the hens wiggle their hips when they do this that is totally endearing to me.  Plus it is one less thing I have to do.  Thank you chickens!

This is just a few minutes later.  They are amazing straw spreaders.

In other news, the leaves are starting to die back in my squash jungle.  Now I can start to see how many pumpkins we have.  It looks like there will be jack o lanterns this year.

Even more farm news, we have another egg robber.  Friday night this fella took 2 dozen eggs from us at 1 AM.

Not sure if Steve being in the house contributed to this or the noticeable increase in homeless camps nearby or both.  But we are going to start locking up our eggs at night.  So sad.

I’m sorry you now have to start locking up your eggs!
    How’s Steve doing?
I got a good chuckle out of the chickens spreading the hay! I had no idea they would do that.

It is a bummer. But it is too much work just to let someone take them. Steve is doing well but now likes to be in the house at night. I think he got freaked out by however he hurt his neck. I love our chickens. They make me smile all the time.
