Bloat

Two days ago I had noticed after feeding the old sheep and goats that Hazelnut was shivering.  The weather has turned colder, but he has a nice growth of wool.  So I figured he wasn’t competing well for the food.  So I moved some of the goats out and refed a half-portion more of grain.  Simultaneously Tom was distributing apple pressings to all of the animals.

So now the problem is bloat. One goat and one sheep had signs of it yesterday morning.  Patches didn’t want to come in the barn and did not want to eat.  Her abdomen was bloated, but her ears aren’t back and she’s not grinding her teeth.

Jewel showed the same symptoms.

So I got them in the barn, caught them and drenched them with Magnalax.  Hopefully that will be enough to pull them through.  I am guessing that they got an extra portion of grain plus the apple pressings.  So we need to be more careful.  But at least Hazelnut wasn’t shivering anymore.
