Pandemic Sheep Shearing

It was a bare bones shearing day this year.  We had one helper, Denise (thank you so much!), Tom, myself and the shearer.  He didn’t have his helper either.  It was the first time it has not rained that we can remember on shearing day.  But I would prefer a rain to a pandemic.  The shearer was early because there was no traffic at Friday rush hour time.  So we set up and got to it.

Afterwards, I got the fleeces all laid out in the trailer to dry.  One major farm task of the year over.  Not as much socialization as usual but happy to have it done.

Since it has not rained in a while, I am hoping the fleeces will dry quicker this year.

I’m glad you were able to get it done.. I’ve seen shearing done on TV and it always amazes me how calm the sheep are during the process! Your sheep might have been cold this morning in our freezing temps.

They were OK yesterday morning when the sun came out. We need to check them yet this morning but as long as they eat enough hay they should be OK. I wish I could shear later but it is dependent on our shearer’s schedule. When my sheep numbers get low enough, I can start shearing them again myself, on my schedule.
