Late October Farm

So we have been feeding hay to the cows. Here are photos of Tom bringing the hay out to them yesterday.

The peachicks are growing quickly.  They like to roost with their adoptive mother near the window of the weasel-proof pen.

Yesterday we moved the last of the sheep to their winter home and started feeding hay to them as well.  I love to see the beautiful thick wool on them this time of year.

In other news, Tom had been processing the deer.  If you do not wish to see dead deer photos I would suggest you stop here.

Here he is cutting up the meat on our back porch.

Here is some of the ground and cut up meat.

Steve is enjoying deer bones.

Tom cooked up the leftover deer meat into a stew on the wood stove for Steve.  This supplemented his diet for the rest of the week.

Tom then processed the head.  He is making a Euro skull mount with it.

Lastly here is the photo of Tom with his buck and the one his son got just after they shot them.  He was so happy to get this deer.

Tom already made us Venison Steak Diane and it was really tasty.  This may be the first time I have had deer meat.

Today I plan on making Venison and Trotter Pie for dinner.  I have been saving this recipe for a while.

Happy Halloween!

Hi, Donna! I enjoyed your post. And it’s SO nice to be getting them automatically again!! 😃
I how thrilled many dad was when he got his deer or elk. I don’t recall if he ever did the cutting up. He certainly never would have made a great stew for the dog! Now I have to ask my sister what she remembers… He and his brother went to Canada to go moose hunting, and actually brought one home! However the guide actually shot the big beast. Dad got to keep the big rack.

I’ll be interested in that recipe. I have no idea what it’ll be like.

    Have a good weekend!
