My Halloween

The first step for my halloween was assembling the peacock feathers for a tail.  Here are photos of the feathers in the sunshine:

The next step was carving a couple of our small pumpkins into Jack O’ Lanterns:

At the same time I also made Venison and Trotter Pie.  I started it at 1:00 but didn’t realize how long it takes.  There was 3 hours to simmer the trotter (in my case I used a pork shank as I couldn’t find a pig’s foot).  Then it was three hours to slow cook the venison in the trotter’s broth.  Here is the venison cooked up,

and this is it with the shank meat added.

And here is the filling in the pie pan with the marrow bone in the middle.

And here it is with the suet crust about to go in the oven.

Then I assembled my peacock outfit.  I decided to add a purple wig.

Then I lit some candles, and we watched It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Then we watched The Ritual.  It is based in the woods of northern Sweden and was pretty spooky.

Finally the pie was ready.  It was one of the best things I have ever eaten, so good!

And very appropriate for watching a spooky movie too.

Oh my goodness! I kept wondering about that pie…. I’m not at all sure I would care for it. Did Tom like it?
Your costume was really great! Did it take long to put it together?

Tom did like it. I think I liked it more though the costume didn’t take long. Just used rubber bands and tape to the bottoms of the feathers and threw on a bathing suit, tights and skirt. Then belted the feathers to me and tossed in the wig.
