Back to the Farm Blog

The other day I noticed our Bielefelder rooster hanging with some hens. He may be developing his own harem. Until now he has been alone.

And look at what my husband brought home from the thrift store today!  It is a Dryad Leicester table loom for $39.  It will be my Christmas present.  It appears to be all there and will need some minor adjustments and additions to get it functional.  I am just starting to learn about this loom but apparently they were made is Leicester, England until 1972.  I think it is really cool and am looking forward to getting it for Christmas.

And here was my afternoon.  I roasted sweet potatoes and our pumpkins in preparation for Thanksgiving.  Plus I roasted pumpkin seeds.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It should be a great opportunity for us all to focus on what we are thankful for despite this crappy year.

  1. What a deal/steal on that loom! I’ve been slightly tempted by weaving but the price point, space, and all the other things I like to spend my time on have convinced me that I do not have enough lifetimes to add yet another hobby.

P.S. Thank you for your prior post. It is good to be educated about ALL the various groups impacted by COVID-19, as there are still so many naysayers who think nothing of putting us ALL at greater risk.

It was a deal/steal! He had his foot on it while he looked it up on his phone in the shop with three women trying to get to it at the same time. It is for sale on line for $250 so he decided it was a good price. I do feel a little bad for the women in the store also wanting it, and they may have been more deserving. But there is the issue of space. I have to clear out some in my fiber room for it. Wish me luck with that.
You are welcome for the COVID-19 post response. If we could just pull it together as a community there would be so much less suffering.

congrats on the loom! what a great find- and I’m glad that your Bielefelder roo finally has a bunch of girlfriends 🙂

It was a great find. Tom is good at finding me really nice used cool fiber equipment. I am not sure those are all his girlfriends but at least come are. So happy he is not alone, and the hens should be getting some protection from the ever-present eagles.

What a great Christmas gift! How nice of Tom to get it for you!
We haven’t made any preps for Thanksgiving. We’re not having turkey, though. Instead, we’re getting barbecued pork! Is that silly?
    Have a great Thanksgiving!
