December Farm Events and Health Update

The pigs Porky and Penelope are still with us. We haven’t heard from the butcher yet. They are getting quite large.

Here is a photo of Shorty and Peewee sunning themselves in the barn this morning.  They are getting aged, but they are still good friends.

And here is a photo of them when they were less than one month old.

We decided to let the peachicks out of their pen this morning with their adoptive chicken mother.  Their biologic mother was quite curious about them.

Their father was curious as well.   The adoptive mother though was trying to defend her chicks from the peahen.   Hopefully it will all work out.

Health Update:

Since the last update in early October, I have been getting progressive worse with my left knee swelling, fatigue, shortness of breath and palpitations.  I couldn’t walk at all at the mountain trailer because the breathing was so bad at altitude but even at home I am breathing hard with simple walking.  My prednisone has increase to 15 mg so I am waiting to see if that will help.  I am stopping the sulfasalazine and methotrexate as they have not helped, and the plan is to start Enbrel.  I am waiting for insurance authorization.  My labs are OK except my creatinine (kidney test) is a little high, perhaps from the NSAIDS I had been taking.  I am scheduled for exercise pulmonary testing at the end of the month and hoping that will give me some answers.  I am still not sure if all of this is the reactive arthritis from the Norovirus I got at work in February or if some of it is post COVID symptoms from possibly having COVID in March after taking care of a patient then that likely had the virus.  I am still working, but it is a struggle.

Goat diapers are a hoot 🙂 I feel for ya, Thank goodness I am close to a major Veterans Administration Medical Center. I don’t know if my knees have premature deterioration like I had 25 yrs ago whilst at 67 yrs old now I think my body is just winding down after being an electrician for 50yrs and an aggressive downhill ski racer for 60yrs 😉 BTW I have been off NSAID’s 20 some Yrs now (those are bad) 💊 I just ‘grin & bare it’ However a 6 pak and a nap a few times a week does wonders 😉 𝕊𝕥𝕒𝕪 𝕊𝕒𝕗𝕖 𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖 🙂

  2. Not happy at all with your health update; can only imagine how YOU feel about it! If your kidneys are already stressed, PLEASE don’t utilize the ‘six-pack’ therapy. My brother is in kidney failure/dialysis from years of drinking….

Shorty and Peewee look pretty good yet. They were adorable in their diapers!
I’m very sorry you are having so many problems. No fun at all! I’ll be praying for you. Please keep us informed as to how you’re doing.

love the Shorty and PeeWee baby picture! So sorry to hear that the health situation hasn’t improved. Do try to take it easy over the holidays- it sounds like you could really use some downtime.
