The chicks from last year are grown up. Here are the “pea chicks”, now pea hens with their biologic mother.
Here are the last hay loft chick roosters. They each have their own territory. The one on the left likes the alleyway, behind the fence you see in the background. The rooster not the right prefers the “pheasant pen” where they are now. They will occasionally cohabitation briefly. This black hen hangs with them for some reason. Otherwise they do not seem to have their harems established yet. Whenever they try to have relations with one of the hens, the Bielefelder rooster attacks them.
And here he is, the main rooster. I thawed some frozen nettle soup I had left from last spring. I figure since fresh nettles are coming up here is no point in keeping last year’s soup as fresh soup will be coming very soon. The chickens seemed to enjoy it.
Here are other cows awaiting their hay for breakfast.
In other news, I made Salted Chocolate Chunk Shortbread Cookies for Tom’s cookie jar the other day. Here they are after baking.
They are very good, almost too good. I did have one of the damaged ones. Tom seems to be making his way through the rest at a good pace. Definitely keeping this recipe.
And here is the obligatory Ryeleigh video. Tom took this one when I was at work a couple of days ago. This is the first time she was off leash in the yard, and she is playing snake with Steve. He sent the video to me at work, and it really warmed my heart.

Bailey likes them gutted, he’s a retriever and he loves bringing everyone a present when they come through the door! I think the floppiness helps!
Hm! I thought I had commented on this one! The birds are beautiful! It’s nice to see the pea chicks all grown up! The young roosters are beautiful, too! The video is really cute. It’s so much fun to see dogs playing.
