So this morning I found carnage in the “pheasant pen” containing the hatchery chicks. There were three dead bodies and 4 more chicks missing. There was a lot of head and neck damage on the dead ones so I suspect a weasel. So I moved the remaining hatchery chicks to the “weasel prof pen” with the hay loft chicks and the turkey chick.

They all seemed to get along OK.

Then I moved the white turkeys back into the “pheasant pen”. They are too big to be bothered by a weasel. We haven’t had a weasel problem here in a long time. So this is sad.

It’s always something on the farm, isn’t it? Sorry for the loss of birds.
It is always something but this is getting to be a bit much.
Owls provide the same kind of carnage as do rats. Hope you can rid your farm of both!!
Thanks. I think it would be hard for an owl to get in this netted pen but definitely I could be mistaken. We have had lots of rats and not had this, but maybe their behavior is changing. We will keep our eyes open for what it might be while we keep the chicks inside.
Donna, I’m so sorry about this! I hope all will go better from here on out.
It’s definitely getting to be too much, as you said.
Thanks Jeanne! It is.
