Death in the Afternoon

I did not post this earlier because it did not seem very Christmasy. But my last advent calendar liquid on 12/24 was 2 ounces of absinthe. Once again I had to google to find an appropriate cocktail recipe. Most I either did not have the other ingredients for or it took a small amount of absinthe (like 1/8 teaspoon). But then I found this recipe. I used some of Tom’s sparkling hard cider instead of champagne. Here it is:

I thought it was appropriate as Ernest Hemingway supposedly invented it, and I was asking for his books for Christmas. We are going to Key West in February, and I wanted to read some his book before then. Plus this drink is powerful and helped smooth over the final push to Christmas that afternoon. Finally I read he invented it in Pamplona, and I happened to be wearing the shirt I had bought there:

So it seemed appropriate. I did not get any Hemingway books though but I bought them for myself on huge sale yesterday from powells.com. So it all works out.

Absinthe- a new Christmas tradition? Just looked it up- I didn’t realize that it was anise-flavored. Love anise. and that shirt is awesome 🙂

Maybe. It is strongly anise flavored but other stuff too. There is a really interesting history to it. I fell in love with the shirt in a Pamplona gift shop and still love it.
