Thinking about seasons
I have been thinking about how my life is so much more affected by seasonal variation than when I was younger. I grew up in the suburbs of Seattle and only noticed the seasons with relation to school and holidays- at least that’s my memory. Now I am noticing that not only my farm and garden work load change (which I have appreciated for a while), but my diet changes as does my home. Right now we have pheasant eggs incubating on the dining room table, and I have pumpkin starts in my window sills. I pay much more attention to weather forecasts and worry about it’s effects on the animals, pasture and garden. I’ve been thinking about how much more I appreciate these variations in our climate and how much more they affect me. It’s actually a beautiful thing- even though I complain about the weather from time to time.

A friend of mine and I were discussing this very thing about getting older, Donna. I’ve noticed the same thing. So has my DH…mentioning that it’s time for lighter foods than our winter repast. Maybe this is part of the wisdom we’re supposed to get as we age??? 🙂
