Snow Train to Leavenworth

Tom train and puget sound

I am sorry I have not been blogging recently.  I have been really busy with work and to a lesser extent, Christmas.  And this will not be a farm blog, but we did have a nice trip yesterday I thought I would write about.  We went with my mother and stepfather to Leavenworth on the Snow Train.  Above is a photo of Tom on the train leaving Edmonds traveling along the Puget Sound.  Below is the train in the mountains before the Cascade Tunnel.

The tunnel got a little spooky this time as I used my flashlight app on my iPhone to look out and never realized how tight this tunnel is.  I started getting a little claustrophobic, and the engineer had turned the lights down to conserve energy.  Then we heard a beautiful voice singing Silent Night.  It took me a bit to realize this voice was coming out of the mouth of a teenager.  It was perfect and calmed me as we finished the tunnel.

There were quite a few entertainers on the train: musicians, singers, and magicians.  Then we arrived in Leavenworth, and it was very crowded, much more so than I thought it would be.  Here’s a photo of this:

Here are kids trying to sled on the grass slope:

And here is a goat statue.  You can tell it is a statue because a real goat would never let snow fall on its back.

One of the best parts of the day was the lightings.  They lit the Christmas tree first as it continued to snow,

and then they lit the buildings and the other trees.  It was just gorgeous.  A very nice way to spend the day and get into the Christmas spirit (which can be lacking in the hubbub to get ready sometimes).
