A series of events conspired to keep us from camping this weekend, but we have not had a decent vacation since September so decided to do a mini vacation. Then the I-5 bridge came down, further challenging our plans. Above is the broken northern end of the bridge, and below is the side view.
So our mini vacation involved a quick trip to Seattle. Because we did not make plans for our beagle, he came along. We walked around Pike Place Market but it was too crowded, especially for a short beagle so we had a cider at Kell’s on Post Alley.
We checked into the Olympic Hotel, and Rocky was given bottled water and biscuits on a silver platter (note the biscuits are already gone).
We went to a dinner show at the Triple Door and saw Duffy Bishop sing. She covered a couple of Etta James songs ands was amazing, brought tears to my eyes.
We slept in the next morning, watched the Indy 500 on TV and had room service breakfast. I do not think I have ever seen the Indy 500 since I am always busy on Memorial Day weekend. (Tom is shirtless, not naked).
We checked out and then headed across the 520 bridge which I have not been over in years and checked out the construction there.
And headed to Woodinville where we met my mom and Al (step-dad) for some lunch and wine tasting. We ate at the Purple Cafe (which was really good) and probably had the best wine of the day (the third one on the list below).
We went to 4 wine tasting sites with a beagle in tow, and I bought enough wine to keep me busy for a while. Then we headed home. By the time we reach the Skagit River, they had a crane up and we starting to dismantle the collapsed section of bridge.
So we had a nice mini vacation. And since we were driving at off-times the freeway being out did not affect us too much. Now we are relaxed and refreshed and ready for farm chores again!
Sounds like a nice weekend; relaxing and filled with fun stuff! I headed to Larrabee for some camping and my 2 yo grandsons first camping trip! On the way out of town on Friday, the traffic was awful. Coming home on Sunday, traffic was just like a normal day. Very strange, but much appreciated after breaking camp in the pouring rain. Hopefully the “temporary” span will be up soon and our little communities can return to normal. People in Australia, Germany and Italy have ask about me about it (and us). Not the way Skagit County wants to make the news!
Thanks Liz! It was a nice weekend although short. That is great you got to go camping, despite the rain. It looked like Friday was awful, and that was Tom’s experience but Saturday and Sunday seemed OK. I worry about how today is though. It is not how to make the news, gridlock!
He, he he – your picture (#2) of the bridge is exactly like mine (but clearer – Oh, well) We headed out to E Wash on Sat. a.m. – hit downtown B’ton at 8:30 and breezed right through – yeah! – coming back we decided to come over Hiway 20 – the only place we got held up was about 3 miles outside of Winthrop – bumper to bumper for about 1/2 hour til we turned out of town – after that over the mountains was a breeze. Glad you had a fun time in Seattle. Dob biscuits and water on a silver platter – that little beagle leads a charmed life 🙂 Good luck and safe travels getting to work. T.
Mine is not that clear so yours must be a blur. Glad you made it OK. Our beagle does lead a charmed life. He is crashed out on the couch next to me now after have some chicken for dinner. Thanks for the luck getting to work. My first trip is in the morning. I hope I make it in time.
