Sheep Fall Maintenance 2013

Bobbitt on trimming standToday was fall sheep maintenance day here.  We tried to entice sheep one by one through the gate onto the stand with grain.  It worked for 8 sheep, but the rest had to be caught and moved onto the stand.  So 30 sheep had their hooves trimmed, their worming medication given, and their inspections for body condition, wool quality and conjunctival color.  Overall they looked good with no unexpected issues.  One sheep escaped and there are 2 old skinny sheep and three rams yet to do.  But I am very sore and tired, and this can wait until tomorrow.

A job well done…we still have fall hoof trimming ahead of us 🙁

Thanks Lois! I was feeling like I was late doing this, but at least it is mostly done. A hot bath helped a lot with the aches and pains too.

how are the rescued sheep doing?

    • Donna says:

One of them, Madonna, was the one who got away. The other one, Ewegenie, has a long felted coat (because when I sheared her I left extra wool on to keep her warm) but her feet and condition look good. I am assuming Madonna is fine with how quickly she squirted out of barn but have not laid hands on her recently. I decided not to try and catch her today by myself but will wait until Tom can help me.
