Our 13.5 year old Shetland wether Coco died today. We was standing oddly this morning. I went to move him into the barn, and he had a seizure. I knew this was not a good sign so we got him into the barn. He did not have a fever so I tried to give him some nutritional support. He was standing but not much else and shortly thereafter was dead. He was fine yesterday, eating well so at least it was a brief illness. But I am still quite sad. He was a nice sheep with beautiful moorit wool. He will be missed.

He looks a lot like our Browning, whose wool I am knitting with right now. I am sorry you lost him, and hope you have some of his wool left to spin into yarn.

I think it’s all washed and carded, but I’m pretty sure I’ve still got some in stash. Will try to find it before I come over for shearing day. It was really nice to work with, and a beautiful milk chocolate-y brown color.

And it is such a compliment to him that you chose his fleece last year. Pretty good for a 12 year old sheep.

Sorry for your double loss, Donna. I know it’s hard. They all have their distinctive personality and special spot in the barnyard. They leave big holes. I’ve got about five or six that are up and I know it’ll probably be a grim time when they go. Had one round the year before where I lost three of the oldies in a short time of each other and it is hard. Take care.

Thanks Tammy! It is hard. Each animal is unique and missed when gone. I usually do not have a flurry of deaths like this so hopefully it is over for a while. There will be more though because we have 20 sheep and goats over 10 years of age.
