Unusual Autumn Harvests

Gotland sheen

First I sheared our two Gotland-Finn-Shetland lambs.  I thought I was going to like Maybelle’s black fleece best, but then I saw the Gotland grey sheen on Wynette’s and was mesmerized.  Here they are sheared (I left neck muffs on purpose).

Then I picked the quince off of our ex-pear tree.

quince

This is the first time I have ever seen a quince.  The plan is to make quince wine.  I then laid out the lambs fleeces to dry.

I will dry, skirt, weigh and judge these fleeces.  Then I will bring them to the Holiday Festival to sell.

Now I will root the Seahawks to victory.  Go Hawks!!!

Donna! I sold Little Red Oak Farm, but there was a small pear tree that had died back to its quince rootstock. I’m guessing that’s what you have here! good to see. Best, Gail

Hi Gail! Sorry to see your farm sold, but it is obviously for the best. I agree that my husband overpruned my pear tree and now it is bearing quince.
