died today. We got her in December 2002 as puppy from a local rescue called SPOT. We were told that she was a combination of border collie, beagle, lab, german shepherd and rottweiler. We had been looking for a dog. I wanted a lab or shepherd, Tom wanted a beagle and Thomas wanted a rottweiler so this seemed like the perfect solution. She was a cute puppy with huge paws.
She moved to the farm without any problems except she like to kill chickens and she got hit on our busy road when she was about 1 year old. She broke her pelvis and had to have expensive surgery to fix it.
She got along with the other dogs well.
In 2012 she tore her cruciate ligament and needed another expensive surgery.
She reluctantly dressed up as Wonder Woman for Halloween.
She and Vanessa were particularly good friends.
She enjoyed traveling with us.
She also liked just hanging around the farm, following us doing our chores.
She enjoyed going to our cabins.
Recently she was slowing down, lying around more and walking less. The cedar tree became her favorite place to watch us do the farm chores.
Thankfully we got to take her to the Boles one last time. She loved it up there, hunting chipmunks. I knew something was up when she was peeing without much control and did not want to go on a walk with me and the beagles. Then Sunday morning she suddenly couldn’t stand up. We got her home and helped her around. She could eat and drink but couldn’t stand up and was peeing on herself. So this morning we called the vet out to our house. He agreed that it was the right time to put her down. It was one of the saddest things I have ever had to do. Now she is buried under her favorite cedar tree.
Here are some recent videos of her.
Rest in peace, sweet Mo.
So sorry Donna. Our furry ones are our family. Hugs
Thanks Kathy! She was a large part of our family.
So sorry for your loss. Mopar will forever be a part of your farm and family watching over you from the cedar tree.
Thanks Steff. She will be there watching over us.
We had to put down the sheep in my blog header today. I hate death, and suffering, and loss. I’m so sorry for yours….
I am so sorry Michelle. I hate death, suffering and loss too. Plus having to make those decisions.
I am so sorry for your loss, Donna. It is the hardest thing about falling in love with them – they don’t live near long enough. :’-(
No, she did not live long enough Maureen. I had wanted to take her on more trips and just have her around on the farm. it will be lonely without her.
So so sorry for your loss. They are such a big part of our lives. It’s never the same as we go on without them. Take care.
Thanks Jeanne. You are right that it is not the same as I face my first day without her.
So sorry Donna. I always loved Mopar. Such a cool girl. I’m really glad she got to go out to the Boles one last time, even if she wasn’t up to chasing chipmunks this time around. It’s been one of those kind of weeks, I think. We had to let Edgar go on Tuesday. 🙁
Oh so sad about Edgar. What a sucky week.
