Dirt

Tom rototilled our garden yesterday.  I am always impressed by our dirt when this happens.  It is so dark and beautiful.  You cannot tell from the photo due to the sunlight, but it is almost black.

This lovely dirt brought here by the Samish River over the millenniums grows the food for us and our animals.  It also grows unwanted plants as well, what we call weeds.  Our biggest nemeses are morning glory, comfrey, swamp grass and blackberries, but there are many others, named and unnamed.  So while we have the blessing of the soil we have the curse of the weeds.
