Today was rotating day. We do this every 5 days, move the mineral blocks and scrub the water containers as well. So it is extra work. But here are the sheep on their new pasture, and they are content. So it is worth it.
There was another older hen being abused by the roosters so she went with the other three hens in the rooster-free-zone.
The two peachicks were still in the nest under their chicken adoptive mother with two unhatched eggs. After chores were done I stayed in the barn and cleaned out one of the pens.
I am glad I did because one of the chicks fell from the nest, and the hen came down too, leaving an upset chick and two eggs in the nest. I moved them all to a crate in the weasel proof pen. She sat back down on the eggs and chicks. So far, so good.
It was dumping rain while I was cleaning out the barn pen. We had 1.6 inches of rain in the gauge today with 0.5 inches yesterday. Plenty of rain here.
glad it’s working out so far with the pea chicks. crazy rain, eh? guess we’re out of fire danger now!
So far. I always worry about messing up. I am not sure the hen is still consistently setting on the unhatched eggs but at least the chicks are safe. Glad the smoke and fire danger are done and happy to see grass grow for the animals again.
