Above is my last photo of Chloe.
We went to visit Russ, Jay, Thomas, William and Piper this afternoon to deliver our Christmas presents. We were gone about 2 hours. When we arrive home, I noticed that Chloe was laying in the bathroom, couldn’t stand and was meowing loudly (completely unlike her). I lifted her up and set her down again. She still couldn’t stand. I called urgently to Tom, and we called our vet. We were directed to the emergency vet, and we drove her right in. They brought her in quickly but said she was near death. The speculation was that she had a catastrophic event like a heart attack, a hemorrhage or a dislodged large clot. But there was no time to do any investigation as she was in distress and dying. So she was euthanized while I petted her, told her what a great cat she was, and how much I loved her.
Just last evening she was patting me to pet her on the couch, like she did. I cannot describe how much I will miss her in my life. She has been a constant in our house for so long. I am crushed.
Oh Donna! I’m sooo sorry! We’ve had many cats and dogs through the years and loved them all. Some were more special than others, but we still loved them. We had a lovely cat who was colored much like Chloe. She was one of the really special ones. But as you may know, the love you feel makes you want another one, when one dies. I know your grief.
Much love,
Jeanne
Thanks Jeanne. It was just so unexpected. It is hard to get used to.
What a beautiful cat. We have lost cats suddenly like that also. I am glad you were able to be with her in the end. She was very lucky to be in your family. Blessings Donna
How devastating; I am so, so sorry. I am glad you were able to be with her at the end to pet and comfort her. What a hole to face at this, of all Christmases.
Thanks Michelle. I am glad she didn’t suffer too long but it was bad, whatever it was. I am not liking Christmas at this point.
oh no! I’m so sorry. Chloe was a sweet girl. Its so hard to see those we love in distress. I’m glad you were able to be there to try and comfort her in the end.
Thanks Denise. It was so hard watching her suffer. I am really glad we hadn’t gone away that weekend. It could have been really bad for her then.
Dear Donna, I am so desperately sorry. I can see from the photos how much she was loved, how every moment of her sweetness was noticed by you, how much a part of your family she was. We palpably understand how much such a dear cat can mean to one’s life. I send my love and my heartfelt sympathies.
Thanks Lois. I miss her so much and it is especially hard this time of year. A lot of those photos were taken at Christmas time. I think she was enchanted by the decorations and activities of the holidays. It is not the same without her.
