Last month, Tom and I were driving by Max Dale’s, a local longtime steak house, and I thought we should having dinner there on leap day to celebrate my break from Seattle Children’s. Then the burns happened and everything else. We both decided that this month has been the worst of our lives. Tom endured being in a fire ball, stays in the burn ICU and burn unit, painful dressing changes by his wife, a grafting procedure, and the painful recovery from that. He also has not been able to do any of the things he loves to do and sits on a computer most of the day. For me, I witnessed my husband being burned, intubation in the ED, watching him fly away in a helicopter, seeing him intubated in the ICU, struggling in the burn unit, subjecting him to painful dressing changes daily, waiting for him in the operating room, and painfully recovering from the grafting. In addition I am losing my job with Childrens and having to do a lot to secure my new contract with Skagit. Plus doing almost all of the farmwork, housework, and cooking. It has all been so incredibly stressful for both of us.
So we decided to splurge and have dinner at Max Dale’s. The food was absolutely amazing. It was nice to be pampered for a moment. Goodbye February 2024, the worst month of our lives. It is only going to get better from here.
Leap day may never be the same for me again.

So glad that you were both able to celebrate the end of this month with steak! Wishing you more happy milestones soon!
Thanks Amy!
Easy to say hard to do. Must move on, it hurts too much to look back.
I am glad you have him to hug and to hold. Lucky you. The food looks great and so does your guy!!!!! Enjoy all your time together , it never lasts long enough.
Love yas, Beth
Thanks Beth. It was only yesterday that I was able to hug him again. Things are looking up.
The food looks great. What a great place to go and pamper yourselves. May March bring a quiet time to rest and recover. Tom looks great to.
Thanks Robin. The food was great. Hoping for a complete recovery.
I’m glad you were able to have dinner at Max Dale’s. Your food looks absolutely delicious in that picture.
I agree that February was a terrible month for both of you, with the burns and all that it takes to recover from that. I’m thankful that Tom is doing so well.
Thanks Jeanne! Tom is doing well, and the food was delicious.
definitely a month to be left in the rearview mirror. glad that you were able to send it off with a steak dinnner! hoping that Tom continues to make great strides in the healing and that you are able to get a little down time to decompress.
Yes, happy that month is over. I had short ribs and Tom had filet mignon, both amazing. Our excuse is that Tom needs protein for healing. Not sure about my excuse though. He is healing, and I am getting a little more down time.
