Aurora Borealis

And then we arrived at the spot Tom picked on Porter Creek Road.  The skies were amazing.  Sorry, there are a lot of photos.

Here are some videos I took.

It seemed to die down, but then it picked up again.

We decided that it was more or less over.  And it was 12:40 in the morning so we headed back.

We stopped at a view over the Three Sisters Mountains.  Earlier this spot had been packed, but there were still some people parked on the side of the road taking photos.  I took some more too.

We got back home at 1:30.  I took a final photo from our front yard before heading into bed.

It was an amazing experience that I have been wishing for for a long time.  And it finally happened and was totally wonderful.  I hope you all were able to appreciate it as well, if it was in your area.  I can check this off of my bucket list, but of course wouldn’t mind seeing the lights again sometime.

It was beautiful here, too! But you got some gorgeous pictures!! My daughter and I went to our local airport and got some great pictures! I’m always thankful for all the times we got to see the lights, when we lived in northern Manitoba! There we got to see and hear them. The sound is sort of a hissing.

I’ll send you some of my pictures.

  2. WoW — just WoW!!! What amazing photos and how wonderful that you got to see and enjoy the northern lights!! We are under heavy clouds here in northern Virginia, so we didn’t get a glimpse, but they say there may be a chance tonight. I’m doubtful. But I am enjoying the photos everyone has taken!

It was a WoW for sure. The phone could see the colors better than our eyes but it was still spectacular. We got as far away from interfering lights as we could.

I am sorry you didn’t get to see them though. It is usually cloudy here when there is an aurora alert. We got lucky this time.

I reformatted the photos and added some videos. The pictures are bigger now in the post so easier to see.

  3. Saw them here, too, and watched for about two hours. Tonight is supposed to be active as well, but I don’t think I’ll stay up so late! You got some cool swirly action there that we didn’t see.

I am glad you saw them too, Michelle. I was surprised how streaky the lights were and the intense pink colors. I reformatted the photos and added some videos. The pictures are bigger now in the post so easier to see.

That is too bad that you didn’t see them. Colette saw them well at her place so I am thinking you should be able to see them too. I just reformatted my photos and added some videos. The pictures are bigger now in the post so easier to see.
