Yet another Schoonover Farm Blog

Hi all!

On December 17th, Blogger removed my last blog of almost 2 years duration and all my work.  The reason is:

“Blogger’s spam-prevention robots have detected that your blog has characteristics of a spam blog. (What’s a spam blog?) Since you’re an actual person reading this, your blog is probably not a spam blog. Automated spam detection is inherently fuzzy, and we sincerely apologize for this false positive.

We received your unlock request on December 17, 2009. On behalf of the robots, we apologize for locking your non-spam blog. Please be patient while we take a look at your blog and verify that it is not spam.

Find out more about how Blogger is fighting spam blogs.”

So I am waiting to hear back from them whether they will restore my blog.  But I have found out about the dangers of having a free blog without back up.  So I would strongly recommend that folks in the blog world consider switching to WordPress and/or backing up their blogger site using wordpress.  Maybe this will not happen to you.

My previous two blog sites are still on-line.  They are at http://schoonoverfarm.com/blog.html/ and even older yet is at http://www.schoonoverfarm.com/farmblog

As one of those people with a free blog on Blogger, I’m nervous now. I had no idea they could or would lock your blog! Mine has been around for four years with 15-20 posts per month. Let us know when you have it back. How frustrating.

    • Well, it looks like you should be nervous. I had no idea that they could shut you down without warning and not let you have access to your own work. But it is their infrastructure we are using. So my advice at this point is either to save it on another platform like wordpress or save copies on your own computer. I have also learned that although our posts are archived, google has cut off all access to those too. Even their caches are removed so I had to find those on other sites. You have a wonderful blog, and it is a lot of work so you should be careful.

Hello, I’ve been looking at different post on your sight and came across this one that caught my eye. I am totally new to blogging, and I went with typepad. Have you had any run ins with them? Can I move my info from their sight to wordpress if I open account there?

    • I have not had any experience with typepad. Yahoo was too limiting in its formats and photos and Blogger deleted my site for 3 weeks. It was hard to transfer my blog to wordpress from blogger so you may want to stay with typepad. You can ask other folks to see what their experiences are.
