Good Bye, 2010

Our year started off with Tom’s birthday trip to McMinnville, Oregon to see the Spruce Goose. During this trip we discovered a wonderful cidery, Carlton Cider works, and got a private tour. We also were finally able to clean up the mess from the tree that fell on our house last November. It was nice to have all of that damage finally repaired, plus all of the “free” firewood.  Interesting it was a spruce tree that fell so January was our spruce month.

In March we bought the truck of our dreams. It is a 1949 Dodge truck that had only been in one family. We have been looking for a Dodge truck of this vintage for years and finally found it.

This year we went a little crazy with breeding.  We had 15 bunnies, 13 goat kids, and 11 lambs.  We also purchased 73 chicks.

In July we celebrated our anniversary by going to the Oregon coast. On this trip we picked up Tomʼs birthday present, a cider press in Elmira.

Then we came home and started replacing one of the barn walls.

In August we went on a training llama hike.  It was a hot day and a steep hike so the llamas were not able to finish.

So instead of a backpacking trip, we went to the Olympic Peninsula and did day hikes.

This fall we travelled. We were able to go on a trip to a work conference in Barcelona, Spain.

And Tom won a blues cruise to Mexico from a charity auction.

This year we also did the usual gardening (although with the cool spring and summer we were not as successful), canning and cider making. Both of us are dealing with health issues related to aging (mostly our backs) and are thinking about ways of working smarter.

We are saying good bye to 2010 and hello to 2011.  Happy New Year!
