Today we performed a tadpole rescue. Apparently some frogs thought this puddle looked good for offspring, but now it is drying up. These tadpoles are not quite at hopping away stage yet so are going to perish. We have begun gradually bucketing them out of the puddle and moving them to a more permanent body of water. I know we are interfering with natural selection but I am a woose (sp?). Plus the puddle is only there because of us so I feel responsible.
It’s “wuss” (rhymes with puss). I’m with you, though – I couldn’t stand by and watch them dry up…
Thanks for the correct spelling. Dead babies are ugly in any species.
Those frogs will eat some annoying bugs to pay you back – win, win situation.
Agreed. I think the reason we do not mosquitos is because of the frogs and the swallows. Plus the bats too. And the herons like the frogs too.
I’d be right there with you! I’m sure they do appreciate being given a new lease on life.
They did not like being picked out of their puddle but swam happily away when they got to larger water. Hopefully they live to appreciate it.
I would say you just created yourself some good karma….
Thanks! At least in the frog world.
