Easter Lambs!

Starting at 4 AM, Tanya, our Gotland ewe, labored and gave birth to these twins.  There is a grey ewe and black ram lambs.  By the time she was done and they had nursed, the moon was setting, the sun was starting to rise and the birds were singing.  It was beautiful, but I still wished I was in my warm, comfy bed.  But now lambing is over (for one month) and we can sleep through the night!

Congratulations! I don’t know if the colors are different with Gotlands but from the photo, I’d say the little girl in the front is Musket (brown based), not Grey (black based). Just my two cents worth…

    Now GO BACK TO BED!!!

Thanks Nancy! I was looking at her this morning trying to decide if she was brown. I had her in a narrow sunbeam and then took the flash photos and decided she was grey. Her father is so dark brown he looked black to me for a long time. Maybe I will take her out into the full sun to decide (instead of going to bed!). I would love it if she were brown. I think she would be quite pretty.

Congrats and Happy Easter- Will be interesting to see how their fleeces develop. They look pretty curly and gotland-ish right now.

Thanks Denise! I am curious too. I took the ewe lamb into the direct sun and she looks grey to me. But they do look Gotlandish in their fiber, but it is SO early. They are only 25% Gotland.

    Hi Donna,
We had our last lambs born on Easter Sunday also…a set of twins..ram lamb and a ewe lamb…also GotlandX. This year we had 56% and 62% Gotland lambs born (our highest is 75%Gotland rams). The black ones were already turning silver when they were born.
Who did you breed your Gotland X ewes to?

    • Donna says:

Maybe the Gotlands like to deliver on Easter? I bred them to our Shetlands rams, this one to Shaun. I did not have much luck borrowing a Gotland% ram in the past so I thought I would try for Shetland colors with Gotland personality. Not sure I succeeded.
