This was the view this morning as we were doing the animal chores.
Things went well, including giving our llama a shot, until we tried to give our donkey one as well. Olivia balked, and I ended up against the fence with a cut finger. I went to the house to clean and bandage myself while Tom finished the chores. I then cleaned some carboys while Tom got supplies. We then erected a shelter for our farm equipment with concrete and bricks supporting the posts. Hopefully this will keep the weather off of various farm implements and extend their lives.
Next we will go out to dinner, hopefully with a nice sunset, and soak in our wood fired hot tub.
I realize today that I am no longer a granddaughter, but I am a well-loved and appreciated wife and that is a great thing to be on Valentines Day.

Have been reading your blog for some time now. As another Shetland owner, I always find something making it worth reading. Today I discovered you have a donkey. We just got one in real late October. Is she used to guard your sheep?? Pictures, please. Fun to see the hot tub; my son has one at his home and one at his lake home.

I originally got Olivia in the late 90s to guard my sheep and goats. Unfortunately she got dangerously fat with them on their pasture, although she was a great guard. I even tried a feeding mask. So I move her to a pen of wood chips , fed her a hay diet and bought Marty for her as a companion. Marty did kill a ram lamb ( the first Bambam) who busted through the fence so we have learned to keep them separate. They still guard in that they let us know if something is creeping around but they were quiet and hid when the cougar came around recently. So that is our experience with donkeys for guarding. And we love our hot tub!
