Today was shearing day, the culmination of a year’s hard work. Fortunately we had Deb Robson taking photos for us this year along with the usual shearing “crew”.

We had a great shearing day (despite the torrential weather) including pizza, sodas, and hard cider. Next will be drying the 25 fleeces and recuperating.
Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of the Oso mudslide. Tom and I were having a relaxing Saturday morning when Tom found out about the slide, and we listened to the scanner. We heard the sounds of people desperately trying to rescue survivors. It was quite haunting. So tomorrow at 10:37 PDT please remember this community.
Thanks for postings these pictures. Had a much smaller flock in new hampshire and will never forget the sights and smells and textures of shearing day.
I am glad you enjoyed Deb’s photos. Shearing day is a memorable day in the year of a shepherd but also a lot of hard work.

I had a great time, and am so glad there were good photos: with the rain and working in the barn in close quarters, I wasn’t sure we’d get anything (other than fleeces). I’ll add that yes, the sheep got to come back in as soon as the shearing was done–and it was a quick process. Eifion is both careful and swift.
Thanks Deb! I am glad you had a great time, and your photos turned out perfect. You are, of course, the only member of the crew without a photo. Eifion is quick. I think we were having our pizza “lunch” by 10:30.
