Baked Goods

I was planning on scooping out the barn pens today but am wore out after yesterday.  So instead I have been doing more minor farm chores, like ordering supplies, rinsing the water containers, cleaning the rabbit hutches, sprinkling a portion of the pasture, watering the garden, harvesting some fruits and vegetables and washing wine bottles.  I also took the time to photograph our animals eating baked goods.

About 2 weeks ago I picked up a rack of breads, rolls, cookies, and donuts from our local Franz Bakery outlet.  These were passed their “Best By” date and can only be fed to farm animals. I got a pickup bed full for $27.  I filled every bit of refrigerator and freezer space we have and still had three large garbage bags full.  I had to use our produce stand refrigerator (sorry egg customers!).  We first fed the garbage bag goods and since have been trying to get the produce stand refrigerator empty again.  The critters are loving it.  Here are some of them enjoying their treats.

At this point I noticed the ominous sky overhead with circling raptors.  I enticed the chickens close to the barn and gave them their treats there.  The raptors then disappeared.

Although it has been somewhat stressful trying to feed all this food before it goes bad, it could not have come at a better time. Our drought has really slowed our grass growth and any feed supplementation is quite welcome.
