So the weather has turned cold. And our old and skinny beagle was shivering the other day. We are not excited to put dog sweaters on him with his arthritis, so we got the idea of putting a weatherproof heating pad in a dog house for him. The problem is that he uses what used to be our pump house as his dog house, and it is falling apart. The roof leaks, and it is nowhere near electricity. Here it is:
So yesterday Tom got the idea of revamping the house he had made for Sunny. He moved it to near our front door, and put in a new floor. He made the opening smaller to hold out the wind better. He added a dog ramp. We put in a waterproof dog bed with the heating pad inside and then a fleece blanket over that. Here it is:
This is Rocky checking it out,
And here he is sleeping in it.
Apparently today he slept in it too whenTom was running errands. So it looks like we have success Rocky can be in the house when we are around, but if not he has a heated bed in his dog house he can stay warm in. Hopefully he will be more comfortable this way.
A brilliant idea and such a kindness to think of the heated bed. Sweet Rocky looks so content. ❤️
He is a grumpy old dog now but hopefully he appreciates our efforts.
I’m so glad he was willing to switch digs!
Well Michelle, we had to force him a little. We blocked the entrance to the old one and put some lunch meat in the new one.
Whatever it takes to make sure we keep our old guys comfortable and with us for as long as possible. You did good, dog-mom. 🙂
Wow. Thanks Michelle!!! We sure hope so.
I’m glad Rocky accepted his new digs, even though it took a bit of persuasion! He really looks comfy in there! It’s tough when our furbabies get old, isn’t it?
It is really tough deciding what is best. Rocky is grouchy but still seems to have perkiness to him. He is eating lunch meat now and still walking. With his adrenal, kidney and liver problems it is tough. We just recently had to kennel him at night due to his nighttime peeing. Just trying to spoil him as best we can.
