Farm News- Good and Bad

Recent events on the farm.  I think I saw a pair of eagles mating.  One appeared to slip off the back of another.

I started tomato seeds.

And our cow Marji is not doing well. She is lame on her left rear foot.  And this morning I found her standing in water.

We got her moved to the barn, but she was shivering.  Plus she has diarrhea.  She did eat some so that is encouraging.  I hope she does OK.

  1. If she’s lame you need to keep her on dry ground and we use a product called Thrush for horses when we get a lame cow. It works quick, but dry ground is essential.

Thanks for the advice! She is in a dry pen now. We suspect that the bull injured her with mounting. But I do have some thrush medication I can try as well. And I did give her dewormer as well.

I hope and pray that Marji will do better. I’m sorry she having such problems.

Marji was doing better yesterday. Her leg didn’t seem to hurt as much and she stopped shivering. Still had the diarrhea. I am at work today so hoping she’s still improving.

I hope Marji is doing much better! Is her leg still painful? And id’s the diarrhea gone? I hope so.
It’s not fun having critters with problems.
Are you still getting a lot of rain? We only got a half inch over 3 days! Not enough.

Her diarrhea is finally better so we let her out of the pen as it was getting yucky in there and she hates being cooped up. But her left rear leg still hurts. So we are worried. She is in the alleyway now where she doesn’t have to walk much and she can access the barn for shelter. Hoping she improves.

So – how is Marji doing now? I hope her leg is much better!

She’s doing a little better, standing more and walking a little better. We still have her separated from the other cows, taking it easy.
