Burn Clinic #3

Today was our third visit to Harborview’s Burn clinic.  Tom has had some setbacks in his healing so we were anxious for this appointment.  This is a slightly different view from the waiting room where you can see two helicopter pads with Lumen and T-mobile fields in the background.

Specifically he has been having some blistering and sloughing of skin on his right hand near his thumb and index finger.  And his graft donor site on his leg has become raw and painful.  Plus he has some bumps developing on his scalp.  Here is the view from the room.  We were on the other side of the building today so were facing Harborview Hall.

Beyond the hall you could see a church and then mountains.

And you could get a different view of the glass structure on the roof of the hall.  I wonder what it is for.

My aunt Darlene trained at UW for her nursing degree.  I am curious if she stayed at Harborview Hall which was nursing student housing in the past.  There are plans to renovate it into office space.  I wonder what is going to happen to that glass structure.

We had Melissa as our nurse, who was amazing.  The plan is to keep the burn bandaging on the leg and the spot on the hand.  The leg will get compression from an ace wrap, and we will continue the isotonic gloves for compression on his hand.  The bumps though are worrisome to Dr. Pham as an infection.  And an infection may be why we are struggling with his wounds healing now.  So swabs were taken, and antibiotics are being started.  We will be seen again in 11 days.

Here’s the view from the sky bridge near the clinic (where the bathrooms are).  You could see Mount Rainier quite well today.

We then headed south on Rainier Avenue to a restaurant that has been on my bucket list for 2-3 years.  As a white suburban girl growing up, I never realized that the reason this avenue has its name is because it has amazing views of the mountain.

We drove by the Judkins Parks Station.  You could see one mural in honor of Jimi Hendrix but not the other one.

And then we arrived at Lil Red’s Jamaican BBQ and Soul Cuisine.

I ordered the jerk chicken with plantains and collard greens.

Tom got the BBQ pork ribs with mac & cheese and beans & rice.

It was all really good.  Except I failed to get the jerk sauce for my chicken.  I am sure it would have been better with it.  So now we will need to go back.

Since it is Pi day, we got small pecan and lemon buttermilk pies. We haven’t eaten them yet, but I am pretty sure they are going to be tasty.
