Vararfeldur Weaving and the Summer Olympics

This is a follow up to my post from April of last year.  I am finally starting my Vararfeldur cloak during the Olympic games.  It started yesterday as the day before I was too tired from work.  I started with rugby and preparing my warp.  I had meant to have my warp on before the Olympics, but life got in the way.

Then I threaded the reed with handball.

I threaded the heddles with soccer.

This morning I got up early to do the chores.  In this moment in the garden, I appreciated how much I love our home.

But then I continued with preparing the warp with the opening ceremonies.  This was a particularly moving moment for me.  I also realized that I had forgotten some of the intricacies of warping my loom and had to start over.

This was a cool moment with 4 prior Olympians carrying the torch on the Seine from 3 different countries.

I finally have the warp on and starting weaving.  I also had to make Caesar salads and start fermenting some sauerkraut with my abundant cabbage, so that also cut into my warping/weaving time.  I will try to do better next week.

In other news, I finished a great book that Tom got for me as a special present after Jim Ladd died.  It was really good and recommended, if you can find a copy.

For the fiber nerds in the audience, here are some of the references I am using to try to create my Vararfeldur cloak:

Wowsa!! I’m impressed! Do you have a photo of what the cloak will look like? It sounds like a big project. Waiting for the finished cloak is going to take some doing! Good luck!
