Our Chickens

I decided that I should remove the leg bands on the younger chickens before they cause problems.  But I thought I should try to identify these birds before removing the bands so I can know a little better what breeds I have.  We hatched some of our own. Eliz gave us some (some of which I did not band), and the rest came from McMurray Hatchery.  I get their Heavy Assorted straight run chicks so I am never quite sure what I get.  So I am trying to figure it out.  Here is what I have so far:

Yellow band McMurray Rhode Island red hen

Purple band Eliz Vorwerk hen

Dark blue band Eliz red Leghorn hen

Green band McMurray Speckled Sussex

Yellow band McMurray Rhode Island red hen

Orange band McMurray Blue Cochin “Fluffy”

Blue band Eliz Red Leghorn hen

Green band McMurray Silver Laced Wyandotte

Light blue band McMurray white rock hen

No band Eliz Red Leghorn hen

Pink band our mixed hen

Green band McMurray Partridge rock hen

Light blue band McMurray white rock hen

Green band McMurray barred Plymouth rock rooster

Yellow band McMurray buff Orpington hen

Light purple band Eliz Vorwerk hen

No band Eliz red Leghorn hen

Orange band McMurray barred Plymouth rock hen

Yellow band McMurray buff Orpington hen

Yellow band McMurray Rhode Island red hen

No band Eliz red Leghorn hen

Yellow band McMurray New Hampshire hen

Pink band our mixed hen

Blue band Eliz red Leghorn hen

Yellow band McMurray New Hampshire hen

Green band McMurray Australorp hen

Pink band our mixed Ameraucana hen

There are two I cannot identify, and I am wondering if they have bands left from last year.

White band hen

Dark blue band hen

And while I was taking photos I grabbed some of the older chickens.  I cannot identify quite a few of them, but they may be mixed breeds.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

No tag “DWB” rooster breed?

No tag older buff hen

No band older Welsummer hen

No tag older black Ameraucana hen

No band older hen

No band older gold Ameraucana hen

No tag older yellow Ameraucana hen

No tag older black Ameraucana hen

No band older hen

No band older Ameraucana hen

No band “Rodney” Columbian Wyandotte rooster

No band older small grey hen

No band “Mr. Pink” Ameraucana rooster

No band older Ameraucana hen

No band older grey hen

No band older gold and black hen

I tried really hard to take only one photo of each chicken, but I have 45 photos and I believe I have 41 chickens.  So there may be duplicates.  It is hard to photograph and count chickens as they move around a lot.  So this was my best attempt.

I’ve never seen or heard of Vorwerks before; they are striking! You did a great job of ‘shooting’ each chicken; it’s not easy to do, even with a very small flock such as mine.

They are beautiful birds. We were wanting to keep the rooster but he was really flighty. The hens will suffice for now. Thanks for the compliment on the photos. It was quite tricky.

I’m very impressed with your pictures!! I had no idea that you have so many chickens. They are beautiful! Good job!

Hi, did you red leghorns come from mcmurray? I’m trying to find photos of their red leghorn hens. The photo they have on their website of the rooster is a terrible photo to advertise their birds by!
