My 20 Year Blogiversary

is today.  I started a farm blog on February 7, 2005.  Here is a photo I created of the original two posts:

These original posts had been uploaded to my current blog site in January of 2010 when I moved to wordpress after Blogger unexpectedly deactivated by previous blog of almost 2 years at www.schoonoverfarmblog.blogspot.com. Its robot has identified it as a spam blog. Because of this bad experience I transitioned over to http://schoonoverfarm.wordpress.com.  The original blog sites (before blogger) were at http://schoonoverfarm.com/blog.html & http://www.schoonoverfarm.com/farmblog but they are no longer accessible.  But interestingly the blogger site is.

It has been a journey of blogging these last 20 years.  It started out as strictly a farm blog and over the years has come to also include topics such as cooking, history, trips, family, and other hobbies.  It has become somewhat of a diary.  I even use it to look up stuff that I have done, information I have posted, and photos.  I have printed all of my blog by years, but now I am in a project to make back up digital versions of it so I can search better.  I don’t plan on paying wordpress forever for the ability to have my blog online so these pdfs should be available to me to look up stuff in the future.  I just need to figure out the best way to organize it in a version that is doable (not too big).  There are a lot of photos in my blog (96 GB worth) so it is a little challenging.

To update our current animal list (to compare to 20 years ago), we now have 2 Highland-Dexter cows, 8 Shetland sheep (and one Gotland cross), 2 Nigerian dwarf goats (and one Nigora), no rabbits, no llamas but one alpaca, the same two mini donkeys and assorted poultry ( 36 chickens, no ducks, 5 turkey, 4 geese and 8 peafowl).  So 70 farm animals total compared to 62 animals plus uncounted poultry then.  We have been trying to downsize so I guess we have had some success.

By the way I have not really edited my list of links of the side of my blog.  Many are no longer functional, and many of the blogs are not active.  Many bloggers have died.  I should probably get rid of the links that no longer work but want to keep the working but inactive ones as sort of a memorial.  A lot of blogs have come and gone in 20 years, but this one is still chugging along.

I’m sorry to be so slow in making a comment. Your post is very interesting, and fun to read. It’s fun to compare your early flock with the current one. I was surprised that you still have the same two donkeys now. They are so cute. Keep up the good work!
