Rodney

He was our Columbian Wyandotte rooster that we got as a chick in the spring of 2022.  Here he is that October.

I decided to spare him from butchering in November 2022.  The following March I put this photo of him in the blog and asked for name suggestions.  Our friend Tommy suggested the name Rodney, and it stuck.

The next month he was beat up in a fight with our rooster Big Orange, but he recovered.

Here he is on our pasture camera from spring 2024.

Yesterday Tom noticed some eagles in our front pasture in the afternoon.  He ran out there and found 4-5 eagles eating Rodney.  So I feel so bad for him.  H may have been defending some hens, but we will never know.  RIP Rodney.  You were a great rooster and will be missed.

So sorry Donna. He was a handsome rooster. I remember seeing him on shearing day in the barn. Rest in Peace, Rodney.

Oh, Donna! I’m very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Rodney!! I always enjoyed the photos of him. I know it’s very hard for you and Tom. I love reading about your farm and your animals, and always look forward to the future episodes. However, ones like this, are difficult, because I care a lot for you and Tom. You have my sympathy.
