Shangri-La

On Friday when I was quite tired post-call, Tom had Turner Classic Movies on TV.  Specifically he had on Tarzan the Ape Man from 1932.  This is dangerous because when TCM is on I tend to binge watch it, especially when I am tired.  So next came on the restored movie The Lost Horizon from 1937.  It was quite a story and apparently it plus the book it was based on created the idea of Shangri-La.  It had what I thought was kind of a sappy ending where a man states he hopes everyone finds their Shangri-La.  But that did get me to thinking if I have my own Shangri-La here.

On Saturday, a beautiful sunny spring day, I noticed that Priscilla seems to be doing well in her new home, making friends.

And our sole surviving chick is doing well.  He/she likes to jump on the warming plate and get petted by me.  I am wondering about a name.  I was thinking Rodney, but it may be a hen. Plus doesn’t look anything like Rodney did.

So I was still thinking that this actually be may be my little paradise.

But then on Sunday, it was cloudy and rainy.  I woke up to find my old goldfish dead.  I am not sure how long I had had him, but it has been a bit.  Here are some photos of him from over the years.

He was getting old appearing and stopped eating.  But it was sad to find him dead.  Then I had to go to the barn and put down a hen that had a head injury.  Not sure if it was from the eagles or another chicken.  But that was sad too.  I put up a fence to try to keep the chickens out of the front pasture so they will be less of a target for the eagles in the daytime.  But that really limits their freedom.  So thinking that this is not quite Shangri-La.
